Men's Golf Kicks Off MEC Championships Monday

Wheeling, W. Va. – After four different events spanning the month of September, the Wheeling University Men's Golf team wraps up their 2021 Fall season at the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Championships on Monday. After dealing with some injuries last time out, Wheeling has been resting up over the last week and is coming out ready to compete on Monday.

Leading the way, as he has done all season, is sophomore Yadhu Urs. Urs pulled off another top-20 finish last time out when he competed at the Stonewall Invitational hosted by Davis & Elkins College. He finished the tournament tied for 12th, shooting a 153 over the two-day event. He started day one with a 78 over his 18 holes, but followed that up with an impressive 73 on day two, moving him up to a tie for 12th place in the field. He was the only Cardinal to finish at the event and is looking to lead the way once again in the MEC Championships.

Two other golfers to watch for the Men's team are freshman Blake Ring-Fish and sophomore Nick Zaller. Ring-Fish has really shined during his freshman season, putting up scores under 85 in each of his first three events. He is showing that he can not only compete at the collegiate level but compete amongst the best that the MEC has to offer. In his sophomore season, Zaller is starting to find his own and has consistently been a third-place finisher for the team this season. All three will be hoping to drive up the team score and help them advance to the third day of the event.

The Men's half of the MEC Golf Championships will kick off on Monday at 8 AM at Avalon Lakes Country Club in Warren, OH. They will play 18 holes on day one and will follow it up on day two with 18 more holes and a shotgun start of noon. The top six teams at the event, and top three finishers from none advancing teams, will then play day three to determine who the MEC 2021 Fall Champion is.

The 2021 MEC Fall Championships kick off on Monday, with a shotgun start of 8 AM at Avalon Lakes Golf Course.
