Wheeling’s Top Golfers Bounce Back as Men’s Golf Takes Fifth at Bedford Springs Invitational

Bedford, PA. – On day one of the Bedford Springs Invitational, it was a pair of PR performances that les the Wheeling University Men's Golf team to a third place finish. On day two , the script was flipped as the Cardinal's top golfers all bounced back, occupying three of the top four scoring spots on the roster. In the end, the Cardinals would take 5th in the field, shooting a 597 across the two rounds, knocking three strokes off their day one score to round out the event.

Leading the way was Sean Dobson, who had the biggest turnaround from round one to round two, knocking six strokes off his score. He would start his day with a par on hole three, before adding a stroke to his score on the very next hole. With his score sitting at +1, he would finish out the front nine strong, hitting three pars and two birdies before the turn to bring his score to -1 for the round. After two pars to start the back nine, Dobson took another stroke off with a birdie on hole 12 and was able to balance out a bogey on 13 with his third birdie on hole 14 to sit at -2 12 holes in. He would add a final stroke to his score to round out the back nine, but was still under par at -1 with two holes to play. He got it back to -2 with a birdie on hole one, bringing his score for the round back to -2, but rounded out the round with a +2 on hole two to finish his day at even. He was able to jump 25 spots in the player standings, finishing 27th in the field to round out his spring regular season.

After a strong first round, Elias Ekenes-Fosback was able to ride that success into round two, finishing at +3 to finish his event with a two-day score of 145. He started his day strong with a birdie on hole one, starting what was a strong front nine. He would birdie four times on the front nine, shooting even through the first nine holes as he hit the turn. He would add six pars on the back nine to round out the day, finishing ninth overall in the field. The other big bounce back from day one to day two came from sophomore Zak Collins, who would jump 11 spots in the player standings. After shooting +4 on day one, Collins would drop four strokes off his score, putting together the best back nine of the day for the Cardinals. He would hit birdie three times on the back nine, starting with a birdie on hole 10. He would shoot –1 over the back nine, helping drop one stroke off his total score to round out the event.

Rounding out the top four on day two was Troy Loughry, who dropped four strokes off his day one score to shoot a +5. It was a consistent effort on the back nine that led the way, with Loughry shooting five straight pars to start the final stretch. His lone birdie of the day came on the front nine and he finished with a 77 for the round to finish 73rd overall. The final team golfer of the day was Loding Femoen, Who was the final Cardinal to reach the top 40, finishing 44th with a two-day score of 151. He would continue his sub-80 scoring in the final round, hitting a birdie on hole 18 to finish off a –3 on the back nine. The final Cardinal to take the course was Luis Alvarez, who finished with an 84 (+12) in the final round. His lone birdie would come on the front nine, and he shot six pars on the back nine to round out the day.

The Wheeling University Men's Golf team will now await their Regional Tournament fate as they prepare for the 2026 NCAA DII Atlantic Regional Tournament.
