Bryant Reaches 1000-Point Plateau as Jesuit Wins 7th Straight Defeating WV State 57-45

Box Score Wheeling, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit vs. WV State Women's Basketball game at Wheeling Jesuit had to be rescheduled twice due to inclement weather this season.  The Cardinals and the Yellow Jackets finally squared off Thursday night in the McDonough Center.

Guard Jaila Bryant scored 6 of WJU's first 10 points to reach the 1000-point plateau as a junior.  Bryant made 6 of 9 shots from the field to lead the Cardinals in the first half with 12 points and three rebounds in 14 minutes of play.

The Cardinals outshot the Yellow Jackets 42.9% to 16.7% in the first half.  Wheeling Jesuit led 28-16 going into the break.

Bryant finished the game with 25 points, hit 7 of 8 from the foul line, and had six rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

"Jaila has been very consistent for us all season.  She has been instrumental in our team's success this year.  This is an outstanding accomplishment for Jaila in her junior campaign," stated Head Coach Deb Buff.

Junior guard Breanna Butler had 9 points, went 4 of 4 from the foul line, and had five rebounds.  Finally, sophomore forward Jaana Motton hit the boards for 12 rebounds and added 8 points, one assists, and two steals to help propel the Cardinals to victory.

"We played very good defense and outrebounded a very athletic team tonight.  I said before the game that the contest would be decided by playing good defense, hitting the glass, and controlling the ball.  We did all three as a team and it won us the game tonight," added Coach Buff.

The victory improves the overall record of the Women's Basketball program to 18-7 and 15-6 in the Mountain East Conference.  Going into the final game of the regular season the top five teams in the conference, including Wheeling Jesuit, are only separated by one game.

The Women's Basketball program returns to action Saturday Feb. 28th at 2pm when they host their crosstown rival, West Liberty University, in the last MEC regular season game of the year.
