Despite Hard-nosed Play, Jesuit Rugby Loses to Kutztown 42-25

3275Wheeling, W.Va., Saturday, Sept. 27th, 2014 – #14 Jesuit Rugby squared off against #3 Kutztown University in a highly anticipated rugby match on the pitch of Bishop Schmitt Field.

Despite the fact that Wheeling Jesuit scored more points on Kutztown than all the opponents the Bears have faced this year, Kutztown outlasted WJU 42 to 25.

Kutztown featured an explosive pace with excellent passing and the ability to put runners into space.

Just a year ago, WJU lost by more than 70 points to Kutztown.  Despite the loss, the Cardinals showed a gritty and tenacious work rate, refusing to give up.   Wheeling Jesuit outscored Kutztown in the second half, three tries to two.  Senior wing Garrett Kiedrowski subbed into the game with 15 minutes left and scored two well-worked tries.

There is something to take out of every game that is played.  For the Cardinals, it is clear that the program and players are going in the right direction.  In addition, WJU proved that there is considerable depth developing on their squad.  As the game wore on, the Cardinals used all available subs and the tempo, quality, and momentum of the play seemed only to increase.

Jesuit Rugby returns to action against St. Bonaventure University at home on October 11th, 2014.  Game time is set for 7pm.
