Wheeling Jesuit’s Frazier Takes MEC Golfer Of The Year and First Team Honors

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Wheeling Jesuit's Kasey Frazier is the Mountain East Conference Player of the Year, Notre Dame College's Brianna Stokes is the Freshman of the Year, and NDC's Colleen Groomes is the Coach of the Year, the league announced today.

In addition to the award winners, the league announced the All-MEC first and second teams. Frazier was joined on the first team by Concord's Marina Erice and Stephanie Peareth, West Virginia Wesleyan's duo of Becky Gossard and Kayla Linger and Notre Dame's Michiko Smith.

"I'm just so happy for her (Frazier), and for wheeling Jesuit to have such a super player on our team," said WJU head coach Sue Vail. "She had turned into a wonderful golfer and a wonderful person. She'll be a great role model for our incoming group of freshman next year."

Frazier says the two honors came as a surprise. "It was tough going in today's round from a tough day yesterday. The whole spring has been tough to prepare for with all the snow and bad weather, but getting those two awards made all the hard work pay off," said Frazier.

On the second team consists of Christi Bilas (Notre Dame), Mackenzie Cluesman (UVa-Wise), Kelli Garrett (Charleston), Sammi Moore (Glenville State), Courtney Tierney (Urbana) and Kenzie Turner (Charleston).

The All-MEC teams, along with Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors, are determined by scoring in select Mountain East Conference events. The MEC Coach of the Year is determined by a vote of the league's coaches.

Frazier will hit the course again next week at Walsh University as a warm up event for the regional tournament.
