Cardinals Fall For First Time This Season

Box Score

Painesville, Ohio – The Wheeling Jesuit men's lacrosse team dropped it's first game of the season on Wednesday night on the road against Lake Erie College, 15-8.

The loss puts the first blemish on the best start to the season in Cardinal program history, and puts them at a very respectable 6-1 at the midway point in the first season under new head coach Kevin Dugan.

The Lake Erie Storm thundered out to a 6-1 lead in the first quarter of play and never looked back, taking an 8-2 lead into the halftime break. The Cardinals put five more points on the board trouought the second half, but it was too little, too late as Lake Erie went on to win 15-8.

Leading the Cardinals in scoring was WJU's most prolific scorer, sophomore Bryce Brochu, who added three to his season total to put him at 17 goals on the year.

Brian Frank and Landon DelPrince both added a pair of goals for WJU, while Tyler Buchan scored a single to round out the Cardinals scorers.

ECAC defensive player of the week, goalie Joe Amlser, served all 60 minutes in the net, was under pressure the whole time. Despite letting 15 goals slip by, he managed to net 11 saves in the process.

The Cardinals now enter a bye week before returning to Bishop Schmitt Field on Saturday, April 6th to face Rollins College in a non-conference tussle scheduled to face off at 1pm.
