Wheeling, WVa. – On a sunny afternoon at Emily LaRosa Field at Wheeling Jesuit University, it would be a freshman that would lead the Cardinals to a 5-2 victory over visiting Concord University in Mountain East play. Aitor DeHeredia, a midfielder from Bilboa, Spain scored three goals to lift the Cardinals past the visiting Mountain Lions.
DeHeredia's first goal came at the twenty-five minute mark of the first half off of a clean rebound. His second goal was also unassisted at the thirty-four minute mark.
DeHeredia tallied his hat trick off a penalty kick at the fifteen-minute mark of the second half when Concord's goalie got out of position and a handball was called on a Concord defender in the goal mouth. DeHeredia drilled the penalty kick home to put the Cardinals up 4-1.
Jesuit peppered the net all day long, totaling 21 shots on the day.
Vincent Faraji started the day off for WJU on the front foot for the Cardinals when he headed the ball in off a long cross from Elliott Falconer to put the Cards up 1-0, and they never looked back.
The Cardinals also got another strong performance from senior goaltender Cody Thompson who posted seventy-two minutes of play stopping 8 shots to propel the Cardinals to victory.
Freshman Jordan Frommeyer scored his first collegiate goal at the 30-minute mark of the second half to put the Cardinals up 5-1.
The win puts WJU at 2-2-1 in the Mountain East Conference.
