Box Score WHEELING, W. Va. – The WJU Cardinal men's soccer team suffered a late goal from the University of Charleston that resulted in an unlucky 1-1 draw for the Cardinals in a midweek MEC battle on the campus of WJU.
In a physical and tense match, the Cardinals were able to get on the scoreboard first 21 minutes into the match when

David Healy to pound a kick past the Charleston goalkeeper. The goal put the Cardinals in the driver's seat for the remainder of the first half.
In the second half, the Golden Eagles used their physicality to their advantage, getting off 10 shots as compared to just 4 for the Cardinals. Only one of those shots mattered however. It was a shot taken by Charleston's #11 Jules Gabbiadini that slipped passed the Cardinal defense and tied the game at 1-1 in the 78
th minute.
The match grew more and more tense as regulation time drew to a close. Charleston were able to control the possession with more authority in extra time, taking an 8-shots-to-3 advantage in the two overtime periods, but in the end, were only able to leave with a draw.
The Cardinals will now prepare to take on Concord University at home on Saturday in Mountain East Conference play. The WJU men kick off at 3pm, the second match of a double header featuring the WJU women at 1:00.
WJU moves to 2-3-2 so far on the season.
