ASHLAND, Ohio - Led by a tournament MVP performance by Jenna Pew, an all-tournament team performance from freshman Kayce Krucki, and an impressive weekend on attack from freshman Emma Schleucher, the Cardinals swept the Quality Inn and Suites Invitational hosted by Ashland University, 4-0.

WJU took care of business with wins against Cedarville University (3-2), Lock Haven University (3-0), Tusculum College (3-1), and the home team Ashland Eagles (3-1) to go undefeated on the weekend, and advance to 5-3 overall on the young season.

"Obviously we're happy going 4-0 this weekend," said WJU Head Coach Christy Benner. "There was a lot of good competition at this tournament. We haven't beat Ashland for quite some time, so it was good to see the girls work hard and get past them."

Senior Middle Blocker Jenna Pew took home the Most Valuable Player award with a solid weekend at the net for the Cardinals, tallying 40 kills, 64 assists, and was highlighted by a .462 hitting percentage against Tusculum.

Freshman Outside Hitter Kayce Krucki was named to the all-tournament team with a solid all around effort tallying 42 kills and 55 digs on the weekend.

Also turning heads for the Cardinals in Ashland was Emma Schleucher, the 5' 10" freshman out of Findlay, Ohio who led the Cardinals statistically with 43 kills on the weekend, 105 total attacks, and a .291 average hitting percentage.

"Every match she gets better and better," said Coach Benner of Schleucher. "She's a hard worker and a very smart lady. I Love seeing her progression. She had a solid weekend."

The Cardinals hit the road again on Tuesday, September 17th when they take on Davis and Elkins in a one off match.

The Cards will then turn their attention to defending their home court when they host Slippery Rock University, Kutztown University, Edinboro University, and Shippensburg University at their own tournament scheduled for September 20-21 at WJU's McDonough Center.
