Box Score URBANA, Ohio -- Wheeling Jesuit could not overcome a 10-point halftime deficit in an 89-84 loss to Urbana on Thursday night in Mountain East Conference action.
The Cardinals got a double-double off the bench from
Jaila Bryant with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
Taneka Lewis added 17 points for the Cards, and
Breanna Butler and Taylor Lubinksy each added 12.
Urbana was led by large scoring performances from Kate Francisco (28 points) and Devonyea Johnson (21 points). Kennedy Boggs added 13 points and Katy Barkley chipped in 11.
Both teams shot over 50 percent from the field in the game, but Urbana held a 38-28 advantage on the glass. The Cardinals also could not take advantage of their 31 free throws sinking 21 on the night (67 percent). Meanwhile, Urbana was 18-of-23 from the line (78 percent).
Urbana led for most of the night, but WJU grabbed a 74-73 lead after a basket by
Taylor Lubinsky with five minutes left. That lead was short lived, though, as the Blue Knights worked their advantage back up to eight over the next three minutes of action going on a 10-3 run. WJU would get no closer than three the rest of the way as UU held off the Cardinals for the win.
