Box Score Wheeling, W.Va. - The Wheeling Jesuit volleyball team returned home from two weeks on the road on Friday to host the Rams of Shepherd University in a Mountain East Conference showdown. The Cardinal's came into the game ranked first in the MEC while the Rams sat at fourth. WJU used their aggressive attack dominated throughout the game to earn a 25-17, 25-9, 25-13, three set victory.
With the victory, the Cardinals clinched first place in the Mountain East, and will have home court advantage in the playoffs.
"It was a good 3-0 win for our girls and the crowd really helped throughout the game," said WJU head coach
Christy Benner.
With the win the Cardinal's will be the host team for the Mountain East Tournament starting November 19
th.
The Cardinal's took the first set 25-17. The Cardinal's offensive play did not stop as they took the second set 25-9. In the second set Junior
Makenzie Ripley served seven straight Cardinal points. Wheeling Jesuit ended the game with a 25-13 set win.
Leading the way for the Cardinals were the usual cast of stars: Senior
Jenna Pew had nine kills on the night, followed closely by
Kayce Krucki who had 8 kills and 9 digs.
Andrea Thobe spread the attack around with 30 assists, and had a solid game on defense as well with seven digs.
Makenzie Ripley led the team defensively with 14 digs.
Wheeling Jesuit improves its conference record to 15-0 (30-5 overall) while the Rams record falls to 8-7 (13-15 overall).
The Cardinals' will host Fairmont State, who they beat 3-2 back in October, on Saturday in Wheeling at 2:00 pm. It will be their final game before the playoffs.
