Box Score WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit men's soccer team hosted the Urbana University Blue Knights in Mountain East Conference play at Emily LaRosa field on Wednesday. It was a game of many missed opportunities by both sides.
At the 22
nd minute mark in the first half a Blue Knights defender was called for a handball in his defensive box, which would prove to be fatal moments later when Aitor DeHeredia connected with the back of the net on the penalty kick. The rest of the first half ended as a defensive battle, with the Cardinals taking a 1-0 lead into the break.
The defense was stifling from both teams early in the second half until the 68
th minute when Ben Fitzpatrick right footed a ball off of Cardinal's goalie,
Cody Thompson's hand. The game continued with many heated moments and some rough play from both teams. Both teams kept the shots coming but neither goalkeeper gave up any ground. The half ended with a 1-1 tie.
Overtime was highlighted by several near misses for both teams and a few outstanding saves by both goalies. At the 105

Jeff Cancelmi made an unbelievable block when goalkeeper
Cody Thompson was brought out of the net and the Urbana forward snuck a ball past. The final buzzer sounded and the game remained tied 1-1.
Wheeling Jesuit moves to 3-4-4 on the season and 2-2-3 in Mountain East Conference play. The Cardinals look to improve their record on October 12
th when they travel to take on #4 Notre Dame College in South Euclid, OH. Notre Dame College took the first meeting 2-1.
