Box Score WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit volleyball squad strengthened it's hold on first place in the Mountain East Conference on Friday by blanking the visiting Notre Dame College Falcons in straight sets, 25-19, 25-13, and 25-11.
With the win, the #24 nationally ranked Cardinals move to 21-3 (8-0 MEC), and put their current win streak at 20 straight games. The Falcons fall to 3-20 overall, and just 1-8 in the MEC.
While the Falcons jumped out to a three-point lead early in the first set, it was only a matter of time before the Cardinals found their momentum and sealed the set 25-19. The Falcons would never really press the Cardinals again for the rest of the game, with WJU maintaining a strong lead throughout the second and third sets.
WJU benefited from a balanced attack on the evening. Freshmen
Emma Schleucher led the Cardinals with 10 kills and followed up with 7 digs on the defensive end.
Andrea Thobe recorded a team high 21 assists on the evening.
The Cardinals now turn their attention to a Saturday double header at the McDonough Center when Urbana University and Glenville State College visit Wheeling. The Cardinals will be celebrating Senior Day, sending off Seniors
Jenna Pew and
Gabby Guanciale with a celebration of their careers during the 1:00 match versus Urbana. The Cardinals will face Glenville at 3:00pm.
