Jesuit Women Battled in Home Opener

Wheeling, W.Va.---The Wheeling Jesuit women's soccer team battled for 90 minutes in the season opener on Thursday evening at James LaRosa Stadium against No. 14 ranked Slippery Rock University, however, the Rock escaped with a 1-0 result.
 
Slippery Rock's Crysta Ganter recorded the game winner in the 14th minute which was assisted by Stephanie Buckenheimer. SRU attempted 12 shots, seven on goal, as Wheeling Jesuit's freshman goal keeper Holly Krauscollected four saves.
 
Jesuit fired three shots, one on target, and missed an opportunity to equalize the contest in the 82nd minute as Maria Tennant created a one-on-one opportunity with the SRU keeper. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, she was taken down from behind inside the box and no penalty was awarded.
 
The Cardinals will travel to Indiana, Pa. on Saturday, September 1 for a match against Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Kick off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
