Wheeling, W. Va. - After a long 2026 Outdoor Track & Field season, the 2026 Mountain East Conference (MEC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships kicked off on Sunday at Mylan Park in Morgantown, West Virginia. The Wheeling University Women's Track & Field team started their run with one event each in the multi, track, and field competitions. It was the multis that led the day, with freshman Fenne Sienaert competing in the first four events of the Women's Heptathlon.
Of the four events, the freshman would pick up two first place finishes, coming in the Heptathlon High Jump and the Heptathlon Shot Put. The first event on the docket was the High Jump, where Sienaert would set a new PR at 1.56 meters. She would clear four of the first six heights on the first try, and needed just two jumps to clear 1.56 meters, it started her day off strong, and she would keep that success going into the Shot Put. The freshman would once again take the top spot, throwing a distance of 9.94 meters on her second throw, and hitting that exact same mark on throw number three to take the top spot. She would round out the day with a third place finish in the 100-Meter Hurdles (16.33) and a fourth place finish in the 200, setting a PR of 27.22 seconds. She currently sits 2nd in the Heptathlon standings and looks to finish strong on day two.
Along with her multi event, Sienaert would be one of two Cardinals to compete in the Women's Javelin as she led the effort for Wheeling. She would finish fourth in the Javelin with a distance of 37.04 meters, earning five more points for her team. She hit the mark on throw #5 of the night, to take the top four spot in the field. Finishing right behind her was Autumn Kerchner, who finished sixth in the field with a distance of 34.42 meters. Her mark would come on the fourth throw of the night, as the Cardinals sent both of their javelin throwers to the finals. Rounding out day one action was Madison Conrad, who competed in the Women's 10,000 meter run. She would take 13th in the field, finishing with a time of 41:59.85 to round out the day.
The Wheeling University Women's Outdoor Track & Field team returns to action in day two of the MEC Outdoor Championships on Monday, April 27th, with first events beginning at 11:45 AM.
