Wheeling, W. Va. - For the second time this season, the Wheeling University Baseball team (8-3, 0-0) is heading to GoMart Ballpark in Charleston, West Virginia as they return to Atlantic Region play. The regional weekend will end up starting one day earlier due to weather, as the Cardinals host Bluefield State in their first four-game series of the 2026 season. The first doubleheader of the weekend moved up to Friday, March 6th, beginning at 3 PM, while the second double-header stays on Sunday, March 8th, beginning at 1 PM.
The Cardinals are coming off their first weekend sweep of the season when they traveled to Carolina University to wrap up the February schedule. It was a big offensive weekend for the team, combining to score 46 runs across the three-game set, hitting double figures in each of the three games. It was a slow start for the Cardinals in game one, scoring just two runs over the first four innings. However, the bats broke out for eight runs over the final three innings and carried that momentum into the final two games of the series. Wheeling would put up 36 runs and amassed 32 hits across the two games. The final game would be their biggest offensive output of the weekend, scoring 20 runs and picking up 17 hits. With the weekend sweep, the Cardinals improved to 8-3 overall and are one win away from their best start in program history.
