Wheeling, W. Va. - After strong storms moved through the Ohio Valley on Thursday evening, the Wheeling University Baseball team (17-6, 6-2) has announced changes to their upcoming schedule. Their Sunday doubleheader will remain the same, with Wheeling taking on Glenville State at EQT Park at 1 PM, while their Saturday doubleheader against Concord will now be played Monday at 1 PM back at EQT Park. The Cardinals are coming off their first weekend sweep in three seasons, while cracking the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Top 10 for the first time this season, and is looking to continue their success on the diamond.
Last weekend saw the Cardinals continue their MEC South crossover play with trips to both West Virginia Wesleyan and Davis & Elkins college. Virginia Wesleyan and Davis & Elkins. The weekend started in Buckhannon, West Virginia in a game that came down to the wire. West Virginia Wesleyan held a 3-2 lead heading to the sixth, before the Cardinals mustered together five runs in the last two innings to pick up a 7-3 victory. They followed that up with an 8-4 win in game two, earning the doubleheader sweep and seeing the offense breakout for 15 runs. The bats just kept on swinging as the games moved to Elkins, West Virginia, with the Cardinals busting out for 12 runs in the opener. They scored nine of those runs over the first three innings of play, and went on to win by the final score of 12-3, and went into the final game with a chance to sweep the weekend. They would do just that, finishing things off with a 7-2 win over the Senators to move to 17-6 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
The Wheeling Baseball team will open their final weekend of MEC South play when they take on Concord on Sunday, March 29th, at EQT Park with first pitch scheduled for 1 PM.
