Wheeling, W. Va. – After pitching dominated the first two games of the Wheeling Baseball team's (4-1, 0-0) three-game series, weather had other plans for Sunday's finale. The final game of the three game series has been cancelled due to rain in the Petersburg, Virginia area. The cancellation led Wheeling to their first back-to-back weekend win since the 2024 season as they hold a 4-1 record through their first five non-conference games.
Saturday's doubleheader was dominated by starting pitching, with both Cardinal starters throwing shutouts. Sebastian Khan took the mound in game one, throwing 7.0 innings and allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out a career-high nine batters. Khan would retire the first the first 10 batters that he faced, allowing a single with one out in the bottom of the fourth that was quickly retired on a caught stealing. In game two, the Cardinals turned to Dom Carlson, and he threw 5.0 no hit innings to keep the strong starting pitching going. He would walk two batters while striking out five, and allowed just three base runners in the game. In both efforts, the starter took the mound with the lead in hand after first inning runs, and the offense combined for seven runs in two games. Gavin Millians would lead the offensive effort, combining to go 3-8 with two doubles and two RBI in the doubleheader.
The Wheeling University Baseball team returns to action on Saturday, February 21st, when they host Mansfield University with first pitch at 2 PM.
