The Cardinals Men's Golf Team Finishes Fourth in Findlay Invitational

FARMINGTON, PA - The Wheeling University Cardinals Men's Golf Team has just wrapped up the Findlay Invitational, and there is a new face on top of the Cardinal leaderboard for this tournament. The Cardinals finished in fourth place out of a total of nine teams and shot 23 over par, which was 887 shots as a team.

Senior Brandon Lee played phenomenally in this invitational, hitting three over par through three rounds, finished tied for 13th place, and shot one under par in round three. On the front nine of round three, Lee started with two straight pars before hitting a bogey, but he did not let this early bogey get the best of him, as he wouldn't hit another on the front nine. To close out the front nine, he hit an eagle on hole eight and birdied on hole nine, going two under par. On the back nine he started hot with a par on hole 10, which was followed by a double bogey on hole 12. He ended up hitting par on every other hole on the back nine and finished one over par.

In second, for the Cardinals is sophomore Elias Ekenes-Fosback, who, after a tough first round, really turned it around playing a stellar second round and almost going even in the third. He went five over par through three rounds and tied for 18th overall, but in the third round he finished one above par. On the front nine of round three, he hit three straight pars to start, then hit two bogeys. Ekenes-Fosback managed to get a birdie on hole seven before hitting another bogey on hole nine as he finished two above par. On the back nine he stepped up and only had one bogey while picking up two birdies on holes 17 and 18. He hit for par on the other holes and finished the back nine one under par.

Graduate student Sean Dobson held third place for the Cardinals team as he shot eight over through three rounds, four over par in round three, and finished tied for 26th place. Starting the front nine with four pars, he then hit two double bogeys on holes five and nine, also picking up a regular bogey on hole six. He did, however, pick up an eagle on hole eight like teammate Lee. Dobson finished the front nine four over par. He came back even better on the back nine picking up three birdies, one double bogey, and one regular bogey, to finish even.

Rounding out the top four through three rounds for the Cardinals was junior Zac Collins, who shot nine over par through three rounds, three over par in round three, and tied for 29th overall. Collins had a great start on the first hole as he hit for a birdie and then followed that with four pars. After the four pars, he hit two bogeys, one double bogey, and another par, finishing the front nine three over par. On the back nine he finished, even hitting one birdie and one bogey while hitting par the rest of the holes.

The Cardinals Men's Golf Team will be back in action Monday, October 26, and Tuesday, October 27, for the Ohio Dominican Invitational.
