FARMINGTON, PA. - The Wheeling University Cardinals Men's Golf Team completes round one of three at the Findlay Invitational. They finished the first round in fifth place and shot ten over par as a team.
In first place for the Cardinals team and tying for sixth overall, shooting even on the day is graduate student Sean Dobson. Dobson had an impressive day of golfing starting on the back nine. He started with two pars, then hit a birdie, followed up by two more pars. After those first five holes, he hit a bogey, followed by three pars. He almost went even on the front nine as well. He birdied hole one and eight and picked up three bogeys and four pars.
Next up is senior Brandon Lee, who had an electric front nine as he finished tied for 17th overall and shot two over par. He started on the back nine, picking up a bogey on the first hole, then hit two pars and picked up a birdie following the pars. After another par, he hit three straight bogeys and finished with a par to end the back nine three over par. He turned up for the front nine, hitting four birdies and three pars. Lee did hit a bogey and double bogey but still finished one under par. He also led all Cardinals with five birdies in round one.
There were two Cardinals who tied for 24th place in junior Zac Collins and freshman Cormac Pearson. The two both hit four over par. Starting with Collins, who had four pars on the back nine and one birdie. He had two bogeys and two double bogeys as well, finishing five over par. On the front nine, he improved and actually tied teammate Lee for the best nine-hole stretch on the team. He came back and hit three birdies and only one double bogey to finish the front nine one under par.
Pearson had a good back nine as he picked up a birdie on hole 12 and also had three bogeys, finishing it two over par. On the front nine, he picked up two more birdies and had two bogeys and one double bogey, completing the front nine two over par as well.
The Cardinals will be back tomorrow and Wednesday to finish the Findlay Invitational as they look to move up the rankings.
