Wheeling, W. Va. – Last weekend, winter weather came through the Ohio Valley, dumping over 10 inches of snow over the surrounding area. That snow has not gone anywhere with the cold front coming through the area over the past week, leading to the Wheeling University Men's Lacrosse team having to make a chance to the upcoming schedule. On Friday, the team announced that their 2026 opener against Tusculum has been cancelled and the game will not be rescheduled due to Weather and field conditions.
The Cardinals were set to open up their 2026 non-conference schedule as they began the road towards the 2026 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) Championships. The Cardinals took a big leap forward in 2025, thanks in large part to a challenging nonconference schedule. They began the year against nationally ranked Chestnut Hill, and went 1-2 during the stretch. They would start GMAC play with a win, and sat 3-3 through the first six games. It would be a three-game win streak that ended the year on a high note, and earned the Cardinals the #4 seed in the GMAC Tournament field. They would open the run at home against Davenport, and earned their first home playoff win since the 2011 season, taking down the Panthers 12-9. It would earn them a spot in the GMAC semifinals, where they battled nationally ranked Seton Hill. That's where their run came to an end as they fell 29-4 to round out their season.
The Wheeling University Men's Lacrosse team will open the 2026 season on Saturday, February 7th, when they travel to Lincoln Memorial University with opening face-off at 12 PM.
