Men’s Lacrosse Lands 12 on GMAC All-Academic List

Wheeling, W. Va. – On Friday, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) honored their spring athletes for their hard work in the classroom with their Spring All-Academic List. The Wheeling University Men's Lacrosse team is coming off a historic season on the field and continued that success into the classroom. The Cardinals had 12 players earn the All-Academic distinction from the conference, hitting the double digit mark for the second season in a row.

In order to qualify for the GMAC All-Academic List, a student athlete must hold at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA during their entire career. The athlete must also be a member of the active roster during the 2025 season and be of good standing in the conference. The Cardinals are coming off a historic season on the field, advancing to the GMAC Semifinals for the first time since the 2018 season. They finished the regular season 8-7 overall and 6-3 in GMAC play, clinching them the conference's #4 seed. It gave them their first home playoff game since the 2011 season and the Cardinals did not disappoint. They got out to an early lead and held on for the 10-8 win over the Panthers. The Cardinals would then go on to face #1 seeded Seton Hill, where their postseason run came to an end.

Eight GMAC programs were represented on the list, and the Cardinals 12 honorees was good enough for fourth among the team that were honored. Leading the pack was Tiffin University, who had 25 Men's Lacrosse players earn GMAC All-Academic honors in the spring. Following behind them was Walsh with 23 athletes honored and Thomas More rounded out the top three with 15 honorees. Wheeling finished just three athletes outside the top three and were just one shy of their mark of 13 a season ago. There team record for All-Academic honorees came back during the 2023 season, when the Cardinals had 14 players earn All-Academic honors. The success on the field mixed with the success in the classroom has the Cardinal program with its sights set high for the future.
