Wheeling, W. Va. - The 2025 season saw the Wheeling University Men's Lacrosse team put together their best showing since 2018, advancing to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) Semifinals. They leaned on their senior leadership throughout the year and one of those senior leaders was honored with the release of the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-Region Teams. Senior midfielder Brenner Chase earned North DII Honorable Mention honors for his work on both offense and defense for the Cardinals this season.
It is Chase's first career All-Region honor after leading the Cardinal's offensive attack throughout the year. He would finish his senior season with 41 goals, 25 assists, and 66 points across the team's 15 games this season. All three numbers were good to lead the Cardinals and put him top five in the conference in all three categories. He finished fourth in the conference in all three categories, while sitting fifth in goals per game (2.56) and sixth in points per game (4.13). However, his success continued onto the defensive side of the ball, where he added 20 ground balls and six caused turnovers on the season. He was a leader both on and off the field and wrapped up an impressive four-year career in a Cardinal uniform.
He saved his best performance of his career for when his team needed it most, leading the way in a 12-9 GMAC Quarterfinal win over Davenport. Chase would finish with five goals and two assists as he finished with a career-high seven points in the contest. He helped the Cardinals get out to an early lead, scoring four of those five goals during the early-game run that saw the Cardinals build a 10-2 lead. It was the third time this season that Chase reached the five-goal mark as he helped the Cardinals win their first home playoff game since the 2011 season. For his efforts, Chase earned First Team All-GMAC honors for the first time in his career wrapping up a strong season.
With Chase earning All-Region honors, the Wheeling Athletic Department has now had seven players earn All-Region honors this season. He was the second of two All-Region honorees for the spring sports, with Outdoor Track & Field athlete Keala McCurry earned All-Region honors for her work in the Pole Vault. For the Wheeling Men's Lacrosse team, it is their first All-Region honor since the 2022 season, when former Cardinal Mat Anderson earned Third Team All-Region.
The Wheeling University Men's Lacrosse team now heads into the offseason as they look to build off this past season's success.
