Finishing Strong and Shining Bright In The First Meet Back

New Concord, Oh. - The Wheeling Women's Indoor Track and Field Team had a quick road trip to New Concord, OH. Eight Cardinals represented Wheeling in eight different events, with almost all competing in two events. Three made podium, with two of them making it in both of their events. Their next meet is Friday, January 23rd at Kent State University.

After six weeks of no competition, the Cardinals travel to Muskingum University for the Muskie Meet to open the new year. Eight Cardinals competed in the meet with three making podium. Madison Conrad, Jade Trowell, and Fenne Sienaert were able to score points for their team, with Conrad and Sienaert scoring in both of the events they competed in. Madison Conrad competed in the Women's 1000 and 3000 meter run. She placed third in the 1000 meter run with a run time of 3:13.56 and placed ninth in the 3000 meter run with a run time of 11:00.02. The five other Cardinals made great efforts in their respective events over the day. Cohen placed a couple spots behind Banks with a run time of 4:40.03 in the 1000 meter run. Thrower Mariah Pelkey competed in both throwing events (weight and shot) and ended the day with a weight throw of 8.78 meters and a shot put throw of 7.89 meters. Autumn Kerchner and Amber Yoho joined Pelkey in the ring at shot put and had throws of 8.92 meters (Kerchner) and 8.34 meters (Yoho). Kerchner also competed in high jump with Sienaert and had a jump of 1.45 meters.

The Cardinals were able to bring home 25.5 points at the end of the day. Despite not being able to compete in as many events as they would like, the women of the Wheeling Track and Field team still showed up and showed that they are talented in their respective events. Three Cardinals, Madison Conrade, Autumn Kerchner, and Fenne Sienaert, are top 10 in the conference in their respective events after today's performances. Sienaert is top 10 in two events, high jump (7th) and the pentathlon (2nd), with Conrad sitting at ninth for the mile and Kerchner at fifth in high jump.

The Cardinals will be back on the road Friday, January 23rd to Kent State University for the Judd Logan Memorial Invitational with events starting at 9 AM.
