Wheeling, W. Va - The Wheeling Indoor Track and Field team opens the new year with a close road trip to New Concord, OH. The last trip out, the Cardinals competed in the Youngstown State Icebreaker Meet (Division I) and had three athletes make podium. With six weeks in between, the Cardinals will be competing at the Muskingum University Muskie Meet Saturday, January 17th at 11 AM.

During their season opener in early December, three Cardinals were able to make podium at the Youngstown State Icebreaker Meet. Madison Conrad and Autumn Kerchner were two of the three to make podium. Conrad placed fifth in the Women's One Mile with a run time of 5:20.31, while Kerchner placed second in the Women's High Jump with a jump of 1.54 meters. Both women are also top five in their respective events in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) with Conrad in second and Kerchner in fourth. 

Freshman Fenne Sienaert also joins the top five for the Women's High Jump. She is ranked fifth in the conference after participating in the University of Findlay Oiler Open back in December when she recorded a jump of 1.49 meters. Despite being the only Cardinal to participate in the Oiler Open, Sienaert competed in the Women's Pentathlon, which consisted of five events: 60 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump, and the 800 meter run. Sienaert placed 10th overall with a mark of 2875. 

On the Men's side, the final Cardinal that made podium during the Youngstown State Icebreaker Open was Alexander Rodriguex. Rodriguex participated in the Men's Pole Vault and placed third with a jump of 4.30 meters. He sits first in the MEC for pole vaulting, and took home the MEC's First Male Track & Field Athlete of the Week Award before the Christmas break. Teammate Erick Berroa joins him in the conference top five, placing fourth in the 400 meter with a run time of 51.35 seconds. 

The Cardinals will be sending 20 members to participate in the Muskie Meet at Muskingum University in New Concord, OH on Saturday, January 17th with a start time of 11 AM. Results can be found at HERE and you can follow along with Live Stats by clicking HERE.
