Wheeling Athletics to Host Second Annual Trunk or Treat Event October 26th

Wheeling, W. Va. - As the leaves begin to turn and a chill fills the air, the Wheeling University Athletic Department is celebrating the Halloween season on campus. The department is hosting its second annual Trunk or Treat Event on Sunday, October 26th, from noon to 3 PM before the Wheeling Women's Rugby team takes on The University of Cincinnati at 4 PM. Kids in the local area are invited to trick or treat in the Alma Grace McDonough Center parking lots with players, coaches, and departments around campus passing out candy to celebrate the Halloween season.

"Last year was a fun and successful Trunk or Treat event that saw kids from around the community come to our campus," said Assistant Athletic Director for Communications & Engagement Zack Zeigler. "Our campus is always open to the community and this event is just one way we are working to become Wheeling's University. We are excited to see all the costumes on campus and to celebrate this special time of year with the Wheeling community."

The first ever Wheeling Athletics Trunk or Treat event was held last year and welcomed over 200 kids to campus. The Department had a big turnout, with several of the 22 varsity sports on campus, along with departments around campus, setting up in the Alma Grace McDonough Center parking lot. Kids from around the Ohio County area came out to show off their costumes and get candy from the teams. Along with the trick or treating, there were games that each booth set up for the kids as well as Halloween themed music playing throughout the parking lot. After the event, fans were welcomed inside the Alma Grace McDonough Center to watch the Wheeling Volleyball team play their tri-match against Glenville State and Ohio Dominican University.

This year's event will once again be held in the Alma Grace McDonough Center parking lot, with trick or treating opening up at noon. Teams and departments across campus will have trunks set up beginning at the top of the parking lot, and trick or treaters will make a circle around the lot to get as much candy as they can. There will also be games and activities run by Wheeling Athletics players and coaches to help add to the fun. After the event, all families in attendance are invited to the Wheeling Women's Rugby match as they take on the University of Cincinnati with kick-off at 4 PM. All kids in costume will be invited down to the track for a special costume parade around the Bishop Schmitt Field track as they show off their costume.

The 2nd annual Wheeling Athletics Trunk or Treat event will be held on Sunday, October 26th, from noon to 3 PM. For updates and more information, please visit our Facebook events page by clicking HERE.
