Keffer’s Top 20 Finish Leads Women’s Golf on day one of MEC Spring Classic

Charleston, W. Va. – Coming off match play against West Liberty oce the weekend, it was back to tournament play for the Wheeling Women's Golf team as they headed to the 2025 MEC Spring Classic. The Cardinals had three golfers in competition, placing one of those in the top 20 of the field. The Cardinals got the chance to complete with the best of the best in the conference and put their skills to the test.

Leading the way for the Cardinals was Ella Keffer, who finished 19th in the field with an 18 hole score of 86. Keffer would begin her day on hole 16 with a par and hit par on two of his first three holes as she hit the first turn of the day. As she hit the front nine, she added a few bogeys before getting back on track with a par on hole two. Her best showing of the day would come on hole five when she hit her first birdie of the day to bring her round score to +5. She would finish the front nine at that same score of +5 and would finish her day off on the back nine. She would add two more strokes to her score over the final nine holes and finished +7 on the turn to round out her day. She sat 16 strokes off the pace of the leader in the day and looks to continue her success into day two.

The other top 30 finisher for the Cardinals was Nicole Lincicome, who finished 26th with an 18-hole score of 90. Lincicome would start on hole 17 and came back with her best showing of the day on hole 18. She would hit her lone birdie of the day and sat at +1 after two holes. As the day continued, the front nine would be her best showing, shooting +6 over the nine holes to get he to the score of 90 for the day. The final holder to compete was Brielle Milhoan, who sat one stroke behind Lincicome, finishing 28th with a score of 91. Milhoan was consistent throughout the day, shooting a +9 on the front nine, followed by a +10 on the back nine to round out the day.

The Wheeling University Women's Golf team returns to action on Tuesday, April 15th, when they take on day two of the MEC Spring Classic with tee times beginning at noon.
