Kerchner's Big Day Paces Women's Track at YSU Ice Breaker

Youngstown, Oh. - Wheeling Women's Indoor Track traveled to Youngstown, Ohio for the Youngstown State Icebreaker Meet on Friday afternoon. The Cardinals sent six women to represent Wheeling in Youngstown, with two making podium in their events.

The Cardinals gave great efforts in their season opener, with four of them making their collegiate debut. Leading the way was freshman Autumn Kerchner, who would take second in the High Jump, reaching a height of 1.54 meters. She competed in a field that consisted mostly of NCAA DII competition, including six competitors from the Mountain East Conference (MEC). She would finish as the top jumper in the conference, and finished just .15 meters below Edinboro's Jada Cook for the top spot. During the fall, she helped out as a member of the Wheeling Cross Country Team, and is getting the chance to show her true talent in the field events.

Finishing behind her was Madison Conrad, who made a name for herself by participating in two events and making podium for one. Her top event was the Mile, where she earned the team's second top five finish, taking fifth overall. She would run a time of 5:20.31, finishing as the second highest finisher among NCAA DII competition, and second among runners in the MEC. She would finish just one second behind Davis & Elkins's Jeanne Pelissier for the top spot in the conference, and, 15 seconds behind WVU's Tecla Lockrale for the top spot in the event. She ran the Women's 400 to round out the day, running a time of 1:04.57, which placed her one spot above teammate Jade Trowel. It was good enough for 53rd overall in the field and 10th among her conference competition.

Jade Trowel made her debut in the Women's 200 meter and 400 meter, running a time of 28.66 and 1:04.68; While Lucinda Banks also made her debut in two events. Banks ran in the Women's 800 meter and 1 mile, ending with times of 2:50.58 and 6:03.79. Jezabella Cohen and Autumn Kerchner also made their debut with Cohen running in the Women's 1 Mile with a time of 7:18.31. Veterans Amber Yoho  participated in the Women's Shot Put and matched her PR for the spring with a throw of 9.25 meters.
