Wheeling, W. Va. – On Wednesday, Clippd Scoreboard, the official scorekeeping site of NCAA Golf, released their regional rankings for both teams and players across all three levels of college golf. The Wheeling University Men's Golf team holds the final spot for regionals on the list, and now one of their players was ranked among the best of the best in the Atlantic Region. Graduate student Sean Dobson was ranked #16 in the Atlantic Region, becoming the first regionally ranked Cardinal golfer since the 2021 Fall season.
Dobson has helped lead the young Cardinal golf team all season long as one of two graduate students on a roster consisting of mostly freshmen and sophomores. Dobson would be a part of the scoring foursome in all six tournaments during the fall season, and was the team's leading golfer in half of those outings. He shot an average round score of 73.28 during the season and finished under par in four of his 17 rounds played this season. At the 2025 MEC Men's Golf Championships, he started hot out the gate and was sitting tied for third after 18 holes and tied for fifth after 36 holes of play. Despite a drop-off in the final round, Dobson was still able to manage a top 20 finish on the day, taking 14th overall and being the second leading golfer on the day for the team. He finished in the top five of events twice during the year, including his best performance at the Sunnehanna Invitational.
He would put together a three-day score of 208 at the event, fueled by a strong day one that saw him shoot sub-70 scores in each of his two rounds. Round one would be his best start of the tournament, as he hit birdie on back-to-back holes to start the round and it would be a sign of good things to come. It would be the first of nine birdies in the round for the graduate student and he finished his first 18 holes with a season-best performance of 69. He would head right into round two and picked up right where he left off, shooting a -2 through his first nine holes of the event. He would add five more pars over the round and bested his round one score, shooting a 67 and finishing two strokes shy of the program's single round record. He came back on the final day and added a 72 to finish out his tournament at 208. It was a season low except for Dobson as he helped the team to a third place finish.
Dobson was one of five golfers from the MEC ranked in the top 20 of the region following the fall season. Sitting atop the conference is Point Park's Milo Thim, who placed second at the 2025 MEC Men's Golf Championships. He was joined by Charleston's Pau Sanchez, Fairmont State's Caleb Young, and West Liberty's Justin Doerr. Of the five top 20 ranked golders four of them made the MEC All-Tournament team and Charleston's Sanchez would claim the MEC Individual Championship.
Sean Dobson and the Wheeling Men's Golf team now head into the off-season as they prepare for the 2026 Spring Season.
