Wheeling, W. Va. – In 2017, the Wheeling University Athletic Department added to their Athletic Hall of Fame with the induction of Ricky Moore (T&F), Joel Bailey (MSOC), and Tina Amoroso-Crognale (WSOC). Overall, 90 players and coaches have been inducted into the Hall of Fame and on Saturday, 11 more names will be added to the list. The Class of 2024 will join the exclusive hall on Saturday, September 28th, with their induction ceremony beginning at 5 PM.

The 2024 Wheeling Athletic Hall of Fame Class includes eight former players, two former coaches, and the first team to ever be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. Amongst the latest class of honorees, eight programs are represented in what is the largest class of inductees in school history. After a five-year hiatus due to various factors including the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hall is opening its doors to its first class, bringing back the yearly honor. Athletic Director Carrie Hanna is excited to bring back the Hall of Fame after being away for so long and honoring this group of men and women for their time with the Cardinals.

"We are looking forward to our first Hall of Fame Induction ceremony since 2018," said Hanna. "It will be a very special weekend for all our Cardinals as we honor so many exceptional contributors to Wheeling's long standing tradition of excellence!  All in all  9 different sports are represented including the first ever team induction!   We hope you can return to your beloved Cardinal campus to celebrate our newest honorees and members of our Wheeling Athletic Hall of Fame!."

Before the induction ceremony that evening, the 11 honorees will be honored in a special pregame ceremony before the Wheeling Football team takes on Fairmont State. Fans are encouraged to come out to Bishop Schmitt Field at 12:40 PM as all inductees will be lined up on the track and introduced to the crowd. Then, following the action, the official induction ceremony will be held in Troy Theater, located in Swint Hall on Wheeling University's campus. Prior to the ceremony, there will be appetizers and light refreshments available for all those in attendance as the Hall of Famers take their seats. The evening will begin with Sports Information Director Zack Zeigler welcoming the audience. Athletic Director Carrie Hanna, Chairman of the Board David Hendrickson, and President Dr. Dianna Vargo will also speak and Address the crowd.

Next, 2018 Wheeling Athletics Hall of Famers Ricky Moore will serve as the keynote speaker. He will address the incoming class and welcome them to the exclusive club of Wheeling Athletics History. Then, the Hall of Famers will each address the crowd with their induction speeches.
