Wheeling Men’s Rugby Gets Forfeit win Against Trine

Wheeling, W. Va. - On Friday, the Wheeling University Men's Rugby team was supposed to travel to Angola, Indiana to battle Trine University in Big Rivers Rugby Conference (BRRC) play. However, due to circumstances beyond the Cardinal's control, Trine has cancelled this Friday's match as well as the rest of their varsity schedule. As a result, the Cardinals will have a bye week to end the regular season, and will have time to rest and prepare for the upcoming BRRC Tournament, beginning October 26th.

The Cardinals wrapped up their regular season with their second BRRC win of the season, holding on for a 26-20 win over Thomas More. The Cardinal offense was thriving in the first half, building a 19-8 lead as the teams went into the locker room. However, as the second half rolled on, Thomas More battled back, outscoring Wheeling 12-7 over the final 40 minutes of play. The Cardinals were forced to get one more stop, and they did just that as a penalty called back what would have been the game-winning try for the Cardinals as they held on for the 26-20 win. Alex Nyamunda would lead the Cardinals effort, scoring two tries on the day, his first two of the 15's season, and totaling 10 points. James Holland added a 3-4 day kicking and finished with six points to round out the day.

The Wheeling University Men's Rugby team will return to action on Saturday, October 26th, when they host a BRRC Quarterfinal match with the opponent and kick-off time to be determined.
