Rock Hill, SC. - Weekend two of the 7s season for the Wheeling University Men's Rugby team (3-1-1) will be at the Ruck the Rock tournament in Rock Hill, SC. There are 12 teams total in the tournament including 7 other ranked teams and 3 teams Wheeling played against in weekend one. Being that there is an automatic qualifier on the line, the format is a little different this weekend than last. There are four pools of three with two pool play games. After that, the top two in each pool advance to the quarter finals with semi final matches and Championship matches to follow.
Match 1: Southern Virginia University - 9:20 AM
Southern Virginia University is 1-2 so far this season but both losses are to top 10 teams, (#3) Queens University of Charlotte and (#10) Mount Saint Mary's. The Knight's most recent game was a 124-0 victory over James Madison. Wheeling should be able to take care of business in this game but the Knights will be coming in with momentum.
Match 2: Queens University of Charlotte - 12:00 PM
Both these teams' most recent game is against one another. That game was a 24-0 victory in favor of Wheeling. Despite a big win in their most recent match this is a game that Wheeling cannot overlook. Since the Queens cup was not a qualifier weekend teams were able to test out different combinations and see what works best. Teams did not always have their best lineup on the field, which may explain the lopsided result for two teams that are much more closely matched on paper. This weekend Queens is going to put out their best lineup against Wheeling looking for revenge. One of Wheeling's advantages in this game though, is that they have about two and a half hours in between games, whereas Queens will only have about an hour. This will give Wheeling plenty of time to refuel and watch Queens in their matchup against SVU.
Some other ranked teams in the tournament are (#6) Belmont Abbey, (#8) Kutztown, (#11) Notre Dame, (#13) Walsh, (#17) Dartmouth, and (#20) South Carolina. Wheeling already played two of these teams at the Queens Cup. Belmont Abbey defeated Wheeling 14-12 giving Wheeling their lone loss, and Kutztown tied Wheeling in their first game against each other. Kutztown is also coming off of a big weekend with two top 5 wins and will be looking for a couple more.
