Jabez Reeves and Andrew Taylor to Represent Men's Track & Field at NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Wheeling, W. Va. – On Tuesday, the NCAA announced the participants for the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Alendale, Michigan. The Wheeling University Men's Track & Field team will have a pair of participants in the event with sophomore Jabez Reeves qualifying in the 100-Meter Dash and Andrew Taylor qualifying in the High Jump. It will be the first time that Men's Track & Field will have a representative at the event since 2019.

Both athletes were in action at the Lee University Last Chance Meet and both strengthened their cases to make the National Championship. Taylor was one of two competitors in the Men's High Jump and finished third overall. It was a slightly lower height than he jumped at the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Championship, but he once again cleared the 2.00 Meter Mark finishing third at the event with a height of 2.06 Meters. Jabez Reeves ra in both the 100 and 200 Meter dashes and had his best day in the 100 Meter dash. He qualified for gr semifinal, finishing third in the preliminaries at 1.48 seconds and qualified for the Semifinals of the event. He ran a few seconds slower at 10.52 and ended his day with a sixth place finish.

For Taylor, he has taken his strong performance from his freshman season, finishing the year ranked third in Division II in the High Jump. His personal best for the season was 2.15 meters back at the MEC Championship. He became the first High Jumper to clear the seven-foot mark at the event. He finished .03 meters below the Wheeling Record holder, Hong Yong Bi who jumped 2.18 meters back in 2001. He is set to compete against some of the top jumpers in Division II and a Wheeling University record breaking jump could be enough to get him into the top three on the national stage.

Reeves has been running in the both the 100-Meter and 200-Metet throughout the year, however, his best event was in the 100-Meter dash. He consistently ran in the mid 10 seconds range and looks to build off his performances. For Reeves, this will be his second National Championship event after he competed in the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. Reeves took home a top 15 finish in that event in the 60-Meter dash, and is looking to translate that success to the 100-Meter Track this time around. The sophomore broke three school records during the indoor season, and one more during outdoor season, as he looks to put a bow on a strong year.

The 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship will be held in Alendale, Michigan.
