Two Sub-80 Performances Lead Wheeling at Charleston Invitational

Charleston, W. Va. - The Wheeling University Men's Golf team competed at the University of Charleston over the last two days. The young group saw improvement from their first Invitational of the year and had two sub-80 score golfers to lead the way on day two.

The first sub-80 golfer was sophomore Yadhu Urs (Castries, St. Lucia/Saint Mary's) who continued his momentum from the Vulcan Invitational. He shot a team-best 80 on the second day of the tournament and was just three strokes behind where he sat in the final round of the Vulcan Invitational.

The other sub-80 performer was freshman Blake Ring-fish who shot a 79 on day two of the event. Ring-fish fell just two strokes shy of his collegiate best and is showing maturity in just his second collegiate event. Nick Zaller (Mentor, OH./Mentor) rounded out the Cardinals top 3 shooting an 81 on the second day, a seven-stroke improvement from his final round in California, PA.

As far as team results go, things didn't go Wheeling's way, but the important thing is that they continue to show improvement every time out. From top to bottom, every player that took the course for the Cardinals made some sort of improvement and took a step forward in moving the program forward with this young core.

Freshman Alex Parker and senior Hunter Travis (Valley Grove, WV./Wheeling Park HS) rounded out the day two score sheet for Wheeling shooting an 84 and an 87 respectively. Parker was one stroke off of his career-best and showed consistency throughout his run on the course.

The Wheeling University Men's Golf team is back in action from September 20th through September 21st when they head to Davis & Elkins College.
