BASEBALL
Wheeling 5, Concord 3 – Nutter Fort, W.Va. (Frank Loria Park) BOX SCORE
The Cardinals rallied late to earn a 5-3 non-conference win over Concord at Salem University's Frank Loria Park.
Wheeling trailed 3-0 in the sixth inning when it scored five-unanswered runs, including a go-ahead RBI-single by sophomore
Jacob Murray (Beallsville, Ohio/Linsly) in the eighth inning, to take the lead.
Sophomore pitcher
Connor Pinsker (Highland, Ill./Highland) earned the win in relief. He struck out four over two scoreless innings. Senior closer
Albert Baez (Fort Worth, Texas/Timber Creek) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his second save of the season.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Charleston 86, Wheeling 49 – Wheeling, W.Va. (WesBanco Arena) BOX SCORE
Wheeling bowed out of the MEC Tournament with an 86-49 loss to Charleston in the quarterfinal round Friday evening.
Senior guard Jordan Reid (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein) led the Cardinals with 14 points and nine rebounds. Classmate Jarett Haines (Bronx, N.Y./New Rochelle) added 11 points, while junior Brent Price (Wheeling, W.Va./Central) added eight points and seven rebounds.
VOLLEYBALL
West Liberty 3, Wheeling 1 (26-24, 25-19, 22-25, 25-13) – West Liberty, W.Va. BOX SCORE
Senior libero
Audrey Francis (Sidney, Ohio/Fairlawn) broke the school's all-time digs record, but the Cardinals were defeated in four sets by West Liberty Friday night.
Francis recorded 35 digs and broke Mackenzie Ripley's school-record for career digs. She established the MEC record earlier this week.
Junior Lexi Reinhart (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline) led the Cardinals with a season-high 16 kills.
The loss drops the Cardinals to the No. 2 seed in the North Division. Wheeling will host West Liberty in an opening round match of the MEC Tournament on Tuesday, March 9 at 7 p.m.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Notre Dame 2, Wheeling 0 – Wheeling, W.Va. BOX SCORE
A penalty-kick and a late goal dealt the Cardinals a 2-0 loss to Notre Dame Friday afternoon.
Notre Dame got on the board in the 42
nd-minute on a PK goal and sealed the game with a goal off of a free-kick in the 89
th-minute.
Junior goalkeeper
Mikayla Yarwood (Surrey, British Columbia/Clayton Heights) established a career-high with eight saves in the loss.
MEN'S SOCCER
Charleston 11, Wheeling 1 – Wheeling, W.Va. BOX SCORE
A penalty-kick goal gave the Cardinals the lead in the 13
th-minute, but Charleston piled on 11-unanswered goals to claim victory Friday night.
Freshman
Simen Moksnes (Trondheim, Norway/Strinda) converted the PK for Wheeling to give it the lead 12 minutes into the contest. Charleston, the defending Division II National Champion, flexed its muscle and ran away with the match from the 27
th-minute until the finish.
Junior goalkeeper
Tyler Serman (Auburndale, Fla./Auburndale) had a difficult night but made multiple saves that required substantial effort. The Florida native finished with a career-high 10 saves in the match.
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING – Results not available
The Cardinals traveled to Notre Dame (Ohio) for a meet on Saturday.
Freshman Ethan Banks won the 500-yard freestyle, placed second in the 200-freestyle, and third in the 100-freestyle.
On the women's side, Lauren Thomas set a new PR in the 100-freestyle.
