BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (May 14) - A total of 70 winter and spring sport student-athletes from Wheeling University garnered academic honors from the Mountain East Conference (MEC) announced the league Thursday afternoon.

Wheeling placed 36 student-athletes on the All-MEC Academic Team, while an additional 34 Cardinals were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. To be a member of the All-MEC Academic Team, the student-athlete must be a member of the active roster and have a grade-point average of 3.70-4.00 in the semester of their championship season. To qualify for the Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete must be a member of the active roster and post a grade point average between 3.25-3.69 in the semester of their championship season.***

Leading the way for Wheeling's women's teams was the track & field team with a total of 16 student-athletes recognized, following by the women's basketball and softball teams that each had 11 honorees. The baseball team had 18 honorees, while the men's track & field team had 9 recipients of academic honors from the MEC on the men's side.

***Due to COVID-19 and in an effort to keep things fair due to changing grade policies across the conference's member schools, the MEC Academic Awards were based on the Fall 2019 grade-point average of winter and spring sport student athletes.
