WJU Baseball -- Weekend Preview -- Cardinals and Falcons Meet in Four-Game North Division Series

WHEELING, W.Va. – Wheeling Jesuit and Fairmont State face off in a four-game series on the diamond this weekend in Fairmont, West Virginia. The Cardinals and Falcons play a pair of games on both Sunday, April 9 and Monday, April 10.

Fairmont State comes into the weekend ranked third in the Mountain East Conference North Division with a 14-15 overall record and a 6-6 mark in league play.  WJU has dropped its last four games by one run each and currently sits in last place with a 1-11 record in MEC play. 
 
2016 Season Series: 
In 2016, Wheeling Jesuit took three of the four games from the Falcons, including a 13-inning 2-1 game one victory. The Cardinals took game two, 7-6, and game four, 8-2. 
 
Dillon Sunnafrank recorded a solid weekend both on the hill and at the plate for the Cardinals. Sunnafrank tossed eight innings of three-hit ball in game one while tallying two hits of his own. In game two, he drove in one RBI. In game three he added another base hit and in game four he finished 2 for 3 with three runs scored and another RBI. 
 
Jagger Bruck finished the weekend series with a pair of base hits for WJU. Benjamin Standiford tossed five innings in game two, and Cody Hudson and Christopher Brake each charted a hit. 
 
 
WJU stat leaders: 
RJ Harris leads the WJU lineup with a .326 average over his 46 at bats. Harris has recorded 15 hits and drove in 10 runs. Matthew Angelini is hitting .300 in 50 at bats. Angelini has started 15 games, made 21 total appearances, and driven in five runners. Dalton Davis ranks second on the team with 18 hits in 65 trips to the plate. Davis has six doubles, a triple, and seven RBI's to his credit. Freshman Drake May is hitting .275 and has a team-high 19 hits in his 69 at bats. May has scored eight runs and driven in four runs. Sunnafrank is hitting .233 with seven hits and six RBI's. 
 
On the hill, Michael Finch continues to guide the WJU staff. Finch occupies a 2.32 earned run average over 31 innings of work. Finch has struck out 15 hitters and allowed just eight earned runs to score. Benjamin Standiford has started three games and has a 2.65 ERA. In his 17 innings of work, Standiford has struck out 11 hitters and given up just five earned runs. Freshman Josh Bell is 1-4 with a 3.37 ERA. Bell has fanned 12 hitters in his 26.2 innings on the hill. Senior Kyle Rees has started five games and thrown a total of 25.1 innings. Rees is 0-2 but has charted an ERA of 3.91. 
 
Fairmont State stat leaders:
Johnny Kesling leads Fairmont Stat with a .421 average. In his 27 starts, Kesling has recorded 40 hits, seven doubles, five home runs, and 37 RBI's. Austin Norman comes in hitting .398 with 33 runs, 37 hits, 11 doubles, three triples, four home runs, and 26 RBI's. Ben Myers is hitting .378 with 21 runs scored and 28 hits. 
 
On the bump, Michael Stout has started a team-high seven games for the Falcons. Stout is 4-3 with a 5.54 ERA. Houston Morris and Ryan French have combined for 15 relief outings and a 3-0 record. Morris has charted a 2.53 ERA while French leads FSU with a 1.80 ERA.
