Cardinals Rugby 7s Split Opening Matches at Jesuit Cup

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – After traveling across the country, the Wheeling Jesuit rugby 7s split its opening two matches of the Jesuit Cup with a win over Notre Dame and a close defeat against Boston College.

In the morning match, several key WJU mistakes allowed Boston College to jump ahead quickly. The Cardinals stormed back with great defensive structure, however, the first-half deficit was to much to overcome in a 24-14 final score.

Unlike the first match, WJU started fast with an attacking start and a solid defensive stand on the way to securing a 12-0 lead at intermission. In the second half, the Cardinals did not let off the attack and held its defensive structure for a 24-5 win over the Fighting Irish.

The Jesuit Cup's second day continues Sunday on the campus of Santa Clara College.
