Box Score WINTERHAVEN, Fla. – The Wheeling Jesuit baseball team took West Virginia Wesleyan to extra innings twice on Monday. WJU picked up its first win of the season, 3-2, over Wesleyan before dropping game two, 5-4.
Dillon Sunnafrank tossed a complete game two-hitter for WJU in game one to guide WJU past WV Wesleyan. Sunnafrank completed all eight innings for the Cardinals while striking out seven and walking just one Bobcat hitter. With the win, Sunnafrank improves to 1-1 on the season.
Jagger Bruck singled in a run in the fifth inning to help WJU take its 2-1 lead. Logan Schickler was credited with the game-winning RBI after being hit by a pitch in the eighth inning.
Joe San Felippo took the mound in game two for WJU. The Oberlin, Ohio native threw 4.1 innings for the Cardinals, allowing two earned runs, four total, and striking out two hitters. Cody Hudson relieved San Felippo and took the loss. He charted 3.2 innings and allowed one earned run.
West Virginia Wesleyan won on a walk-off double. The leadoff hitter reached safely on a single in the ninth inning before scoring from first on a double.
Adam Dennison notched a three-hit game for WJU. He tallied two singles, a double, and scored two runs. San Felippo legged out a triple and scored a run. Christopher Brake drove in a run with a RBI double in the fourth inning.
WJU continues its stint in Florida with a double-header against Gannon University tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
