Box Score 2 Wheeling, W.Va. - After morning showers the Cardinals coaching staff led the effort in making the I-470 complex ready for a night time double header against the Urbana Blue Knights.
In game one the Blue Knights got the best of the Cardinals despite a good pitching performance by Senior
Josh Kernik who pitched 6 innings giving up 7 hits, 3 runs, and striking out 3, lost to Urbana by a score of 5-1. Senior
Tyler Kowalczyk, Sophomore
Joe San Felippo, and Freshman
Logan Schickler, each went 1-3 in the ball game. Junior
Shaun Gaydos also chipped in at the plate going 1-1 with a sacrifice bunt and a walk.
Game two of the double header saw the Cardinal bats come alive as well as a phenomenal pitching by Sophomore
Dillon Sunnafrank who pitched 5 innings of shut-out baseball, while giving up 5 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 9 Blue Knight hitters. Sophomores
Benjamin Standiford and
Joe San Felippo each contributed with an inning of work a piece to help secure the win for the Cardinals. The Cards scored 9 runs behind the bats of Junior
Anthony Connacher (2-4), Senior
Patrick Ammar (2-3, 3 R, 1 RBI), Sophomore
Joe San Felippo (3-4, 3 doubles, 3 RBI), and Sophomore
Dillon Sunnafrank also helped his own cause by going 2-3 with a run score and driving in one run. The Cardinals shut out the Blue Knights 9-0.
Next up for the Cardinals is a weekend series at home versus Shepherd University this Saturday and Sunday starting at 1pm.
