Box Score Wheeling, W.Va., September 27, 2014 -- The Wheeling Jesuit University Men's Soccer team took the field in the second game of the double-header vs. Concord University. The clash took place on a very warm Bishop Schmitt Field where the Cardinals drew first blood in the 17
th minute.
The ball was played down the left flank, behind the Concord defense, where junior defenseman
Daniel Undreiner raced onto it and chipped the keeper on a tidy finish to the near post. The first half was largely dominated by the Cardinals; outshooting the opponent 9-2.
In the second half, the Cardinals created a great scoring chance straight out of the gate. The play resulted in a cross and the Concord goalkeeper shakily saved the diving header. The possession stayed with WJU much of the second half creating several more dangerous opportunities.
The Cardinals scored their second goal of the match in the 70
th minute when senior midfielder Elliiot Falconer played a clever pass into sophomore forward
Jordan Frommeyer. Frommeyer then collected the ball and fired a shot high to the back post beating the Concord goalkeeper. The game finished 2-0 in favor of the Cardinals. WJU Head Soccer Coach Jim Regan said, "It was nice to bounce back, the result put us back in the hunt in the conference. Now we've got to recover quickly to get back in action Tuesday."
The Cardinals next match up takes place on Tuesday, September 30th at 7:00pm on Bishop Schmitt Field versus conference opponent West Virginia Wesleyan.
