The Wheeling Men's Soccer Team are back in action tomorrow, Sunday September 27th, as they welcome Concord to Bishop Schmitt Field. The Cardinals are coming off the back of a statement win at hone last Saturday against Seton Hill, where a barrage of five goals sealed the deal after going one down early in the game.
Senior Reilly Nickles produced a man of the match performance in midfield last weekend, netting two calm finishes from inside the box to spur Wheeling into a comfortable lead. KJ Viglundsson was the one to open the Cardinal account for the night, as he rose to meet an in-swinging corner and sent the ball into the top of the net with his head. Davide Massa got the Cardinals fourth goal and the first of his collegiate career last week, in what was the best Cardinal goal of the evening, set up by Pablo Prieto and Elie Simon. Jon-Michael Gordon ended the game with a slotted penalty to make it 5, and the best Cardinal win in recent seasons.
The Cardinals will no doubt be brimming with confidence as they prepare for Concord tomorrow afternoon, but will understand the necessity in putting 3 conference points on the board. Wheeling's record against Concord is a positive one, coming away with 20 wins in 35 meetings against the Mountain Lions historically. The Mountain Lions have got off to a hot start in 2026 though, holding a 5-1-2 record overall, and a 2-0-1 conference record. Last time out against the Cardinals, the Mountain Lions came away victorious in a 3-1 victory on their home turf, to mark the 5th win in 5 meetings with the Cardinals. Despite this, the Cardinals have only lost twice in 20 meetings with Concord at Bishop Schmitt Field, and coming off of an emphatic win last weekend at home, Wheeling won't be giving anything easily to Concord tomorrow. Moreover, Concord came up against Wheeling's opponents Seton Hill last weekend just 3 weeks ago, where they only managed one goal in a tie. With the Cardinals putting five past them, they will know they have the skill, talent, and momentum to get another important win tomorrow at home.
