JOHNSTOWN, PA. - The Wheeling University Cardinals Men's Soccer team will be at the West Virginia Wesleyan College Bobcats Wednesday after dropping Sunday's game against a great Concord team. Two games ago they did score five goals, so they will be looking to find that success again tomorrow against a Bobcat team that is 0-7-1 on the season.
The men's team has 13 goals on the season, scoring about 1.63 on average per game so far. On those 13 goals, they also have 12 assists. In goal there have been 52 saves by the keepers. There have been 93 shots taken, with 42 of those being on goal.
The redshirt junior Jon-Michael Gordon has been spectacular this season for the Cardinals. He is leading them in goals with four, points with eight, and shots on goal with nine. Gordon's last goal came against Seton Hill, where the Cardinals won 5-1. He added another shot on goal in that game. He is still looking for his first assist on the season, but he has been the best goal scorer.
Someone who does have a lot of assists this season and is leading the Cardinals in that category is junior Andoni Pipaon. Pipaon has no goals on the season, but his five assists are three more than anyone else on the team. Two games ago against Seton Hill, he had a hat trick in assists. Even though he has no goals on the season, he has been testing opposing goalkeepers. Pipaon has 12 shots, and six of them were on target but got saved.
Freshman goalkeeper Alberto Madail has started most of the games this season and has posted 39 saves with a .722 save percentage. Another goalkeeper who has also been great this season in limited action has been sophomore Diego Marquez. Marquez has 11 saves and has a 2-0 record when starting.
The Match-up
The Cardinals and Bobcats are meeting for the 48th time in program history, with West Virginia Wesleyan leading the series with a record of 26-12-9. When they travel to Buckhannon, West Virginia, the Cardinals hold a 5-15-5 record and are looking for their first road win against West Virginia Wesleyan since November 1st, 2022. The Cardinals have averaged 0.87 goals per game in the all-time match-up, scoring just one in the last five games.
The last meeting between the two teams came on October 15, 2025, in a game that Wheeling would fall 3-0 on their home field. Former Cardinal Daniel Delo led the way, making four saves on seven shots faced, behind a strong back line effort from Pablo Prieto. Jon-Michael Gordon would lead the team with four shots, one on net, while Andoni Pipaon added two shots to round out the day.
