Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
WISE, V.A. – The Wheeling Jesuit baseball team was forced to settle for a series split with the University of Virginia at Wise, dropping game one of Sunday's double header 3-4 in the bottom of the 7th, but bouncing back to take game two, 7-4.

The Cardinals are now in control of their own destiny as the playoffs approach. Carrying a 17-21 MEC record (17-25 overall), WJU will need to sweep their neighbors to the north, West Liberty, in this weekend's four-game series to earn a spot in the MEC post season.

WJU dropped game one in a heartbreaker. After leading for six-straight innings, the Cavaliers scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the 7th on a SAC fly. WJU had their chances to extend the lead throughout the game, but the Cardinal hitter left six runners on base in scoring position.

Justin Fritts pitched a strong game for the Cards, picking up six strikeouts from facing 31 batters, keeping his ERA at 3.46 for the season, the lowest amongst the WJU starting rotation.

In game two, the Cardinals rebounded in a big way, jumping out to a 6-1 lead through two innings.

Joe San Fellipo brought the Cards out of the gate strong, slamming a two run homer over the left field wall in the first inning, bringing in Tony Connacher for the RBI.  First basemen Patrick Ammar put the Cards up 3-0 in the 1st when Chad Ford grounded out to shortstop, bringing in Ammar on the RBI.

San Fellipo and Connacher paired up again in the 2nd inning to keep the runs coming for WJU. Connacher singled to right field to bring in Tyler Kowalczyk, and San Fellipo followed up with a single down the left field line bringing in Connacher for another Cardinal RBI.

Connacher led the Cards with four hits on the day, while Kowalczyk followed behind with three. San Fellipo put up two hits, and Ammar, Michael Adams, and Ford also added singles. Two-sport standout Aaron Dinterman also picked up a base hit.

On the mound, Ethan Weiss threw a complete game for WJU, taking three K's while allowing four runs on four hits from 29 batters.

The Cardinals will take the field next in a win-or-go-home, four game weekend series at West Liberty scheduled to start at 1pm on Saturday.
