Box Score 2 URBANA, Ohio – The Wheeling Jesuit softball team couldn't grab an opportunity to climb the conference ladder on Sunday, dropping a double header to the MEC's third-place Urbana Blue Knights, 8-0 in game one, and 1-0 in game two.
The Cardinals sit at 13-22 on the season overall and 6-10 in MEC play.
Pitcher
Ali Smith picked up the loss for WJU in game one to put her record at 7-10 on the season. Smith gave up five earned runs, while only getting a single strikeout.
The Cardinals picked up four base hits in that opening game, coming off the bats of
Jarah Ice,
Lorian Tharp,
Rachel Conrad and
Victoria Vuljanic. The Urbana defense proved impenetrable, putting out 16 of WJU's batters, leading to the 8-0 loss.
In game two, Cardinal pitcher
Erika Jusko kept the game scoreless through four and a half innings until the bottom of the fifth when Urbana's Danielle Farnlacher singled up the middle to drive in Delina Farnlacher for the game's only score.
Jusko pitched a complete game allowing only two its. In fact, each team was held to only two hits a piece in the pitchers dual.
The two WJU hits came from
Lorian Tharp and
Angie Reddick who were the only Cardinals to reach by hit.
The Cardinals continue their two-week road stretch on Friday when they travel to face Virginia-Wise.
