Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Angie Reddick slammed a 1st inning grand slam to give the Wheeling Jesuit softball team the spark they needed to take a 9-6 game two victory over the Notre Dame Falcons in a Mountain East double header, but fell 5-0 in game one to split the series.

The Cardinals move to 6-8 in MEC play, and 13-20 overall. The Falcons sit one place ahead of the 9th ranked Cardinals in the MEC standings. WJU travels tomorrow to the 3rd ranked Urbana Blue Knights tomorrow for a double header that could potentially move them up the rankings.

"We didn't hit well in the first game," said WJU head coach Kelli Williams. "Their pitcher threw well and we just didn't make adjustments."

"In the second game however, we had a whole different demeanor about us and I think that was the game changer," added coach Williams. "We hit better, everyone was up and energized, and that was the difference."

In addition to Reddick's grand slam, the junior from Butler Penn. hit another homer in the 7th inning, along with additional home runs from Rachel Conrad and Caity Ferrell, and a triple from catcher Jarah Ice to lead the cardinals to the big 9-6 second game win.

Between the two teams there were seven home runs in total in game two, including another grand slam from Notre Dame's Brennan Singleton.

Erika Jusko picked up the win for the Cardinals, pitching just over six innings, and allowing all six runs for NDC while taking three strikeouts.

Conversely, game one was an offensive struggle for the WJU hitters, tallying just three base hits.

Pitcher Ali Smith took the loss for the Cardinals, throwing five innings, allowing five runs and taking three strikeouts before being relieved by Allison Litz.

The Cardinals return to action tomorrow in an important double header in Urbana.
