Cardinals Drop Two Against Urbana
WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit softball team opened up MEC play this past weekend when they went 0-2 at the JB Chambers I-470 complex losing both games to Urbana University.
In the first game of the doubleheader against Urbana, Jesuit jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1
st inning when
Jarah Ice scored on a throwing error. Urbana would answer with a run of their own in the top of the 3
rd inning and once again in the top of the 9
th which gave them the 2-1 win.
In the second game Urbana won 7-6. Urbana stormed out to a 4-0 run lead in the 1
st inning but it was soon answered by a strong 3
rd inning where the Cardinals added 6 to the scoreboard to take the lead.
Angie Reddick tripled to right center which scored
Kelsi Thompson, Ice, and
Marissa Cangelosi.
Reddick was soon batted home on a single to right center by
Lorian Tharp who then scored off a single down the left field line by
Ali Smith which also scored
Marla Small. This effort by the Cardinals was not enough as their defense would let up three more runs within the 4
th and 6
th innings.
The Cardinals record fell to 0-2 MEC conference play (6-13 overall).
