WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit women's lacrosse team dropped their second heavy loss to a PSAC opponent this week, falling 18-5 to the Shippensburg Raiders at home on the new Bishop Schmitt Field.
 
The Cardinals move to 2-3 on the season after falling to the PSAC's Edinboro University on Tuesday.
 
We committed way too many turnovers, and didn't take advantage of the opportunities we had," said WJU head coach Tim Florence. "What a spectator sees though, and what the players see can be totally different. There were times the girls were encouraged by their play, and some of the steps we're making didn't translate on the scoreboard. I didn't think are some things they know they need to improve on, and I think it's in their grasp."
 
The Cardinals got in a hole early in the game that they were unable to recover from, falling behind 4-0 in the first ten minutes of play. The more physical and experienced Raiders kept pouring on the points, taking a 13-1 lead over a young Cardinal team at the break. Shelby McClure put in the only half's only goal for WJU off of an assist from Danielle Kirby
 
If the second half were it's own game, the Cardinals would have battled the Raiders to a 5-5 draw after WJU was able to piece together some attack late in the game. Mary Burns added a pair of 2^nd half goals for the Cards. Jessie Tufnell added a goal and an assist, while Sara Fitzsimon rounded out the scoring for WJU.
 
WJU takes a bye week to rest before heading into a home match against West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday, March 26^th at home in Wheeling.
