WHEELING, W.Va. – The Wheeling Jesuit hoops squad couldn't sneak away with a win over Glenville at the McDonough Center on Thursday, falling 65-66 for the second straight loss.
The Cardinals fall to 14-10 overall and 11-9 in the Mountain East with only two regular season games remaining on the schedule.
WJU also misses a chance to climb into the top four in the MEC and thus, earn a first round bye in the conference tournament.
Leading the Cardinals on the night were
Eric Siefert who 7-17 from the field and 4-9 on threes for 20 points to lead all scorers in the game.
Justin Fritts added 18 of his own, and
Tim Goff put in 12 points going 6-8 from the field.
Overall the Cardinals shot 43% from the field and 33% from behind the arc. WJU made all six of their free throws to go 100% from the line.
The Cardinals will have one last chance to climb the conference ladder when they take on West Virginia Wesleyan on the road in Buckhannon. Wesleyan is currently sitting one place ahead of the Cardinals in 6
th place in the MEC Standings.
The top four teams in the MEC get a first round bye, and teams 5-8 will host the first round. The first round of the MEC tourney is slated for March 4
th.
