Box Score Wheeling, W.Va. -- On a blustery October night, the Wheeling Jesuit University Men's Soccer team took on MEC Conference rival and the #2 ranked team in the country, the Golden Eagles of the University of Charleston. It was also senior night for the WJU men, so the emotion and appetite for the game was at an all-time high.
The Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard first with an 8
th minute goal when forward Lewis Osborne drove hard to the goal from the top of the 18 yard box and finished the ball neatly to the near post. The next few minutes were tense as Charleston poured numbers forward to try to get a second goal. As time went on, the Cardinals settled in and played some good soccer. Cody Thompson had to make two good saves in the first half but otherwise remained fairly unchallenged.
In the second half, with the score still 1-0 in favor of the Golden Eagles, the game got extremely physical as WJU chased the game pressing for a goal. The first good opportunity of the second half came from defender
Sean Murphy who ripped a shot from 30 yards out testing the Golden Eagle goalkeeper to make an excellent save.
The Cardinals created several chances through free kicks. Both midfielder

Aitor Iniguez De Heredia had shots blocked by the wall as they attempted to get the game back on even terms. As they pressed and played well, the Golden Eagles counter-attacked and midfielder Augusto Maciel scored a second goal in the 72
nd minute. University of Charleston scored 2 late goals to finish off the game with a 4-0 score line.
The Wheeling Jesuit University Men's Soccer team gets back on the field on October 28
th against MEC Conference foe West Virginia Wesleyan College. The game will kick off at 7:00pm in Buckhannon, West Virginia.
